Tip: I say GMO’s are GNo’s. A GMO is genetically modified organism which means it isn’t something that occurs naturally, it’s been modified from it’s original genetic makeup. Why they do this, is often because they can enhance color, shape, texture and size of the produce and they can multiple it much quicker also. Sounds great right? Wrong. Here’s why. While we don’t have an accurate accountability of the health consequences of eating GMO’s just yet, we do know that just like many products in the past, scientists are worried they may pass on their mutant genes to bacterium in the digestive system. In addition, GMO’s require massive amounts of pesticides, herbicides and fungicides. These things are poisons, and should not be eaten or allowed to run off into our water supply. But they are, every day, by companies who care far more about the bottom line than they do about your health, your environment or your children’s future. Unfortunately, produce is not labeled NON-GMO and a large percentage of our produce in the U. S. Is GMO. What you can do is look for produce specifically labeled NON-GMO. Keep in mind that buying organic doesn’t necessarily mean NON-GMO. The FDA does not require a produce listed as organic to be NON-GMO. If you can find produce listed as both Organic and NON-GMO you have a good safe product!
